We would like to thank all those who have helped us over the years.
Several organisations provided help and advice to the founders as they established the Shed, on matters such as setting up a Community Interest Organisation, dealing with the Charity Commissioners, etc. We are grateful to Community Resource Shropshire Towns & Rural Housing, Severn Hospice and the Hilton-Jones Trust
The Shed has now built up its own expertise and can help and advise others.
Since our inception we have rented a corner of the Oswestry Showground, which belongs to Oswestry and District Agricultural Society.
Our very first shed, a Portakabin, was kindly donated by A-Z Engineering who also provided a grant to help with transporting it to the Showground.
As a group of experienced (yes, that means older) men, when it comes to practical matters we generally find we can do most things ourselves. Even Facebook. But we do sometimes have to call in specialists to provide fire extinguishers, electrical services, groundworks, broadband and the like.
Amongst our regular commercial suppliers we'd like to mention particularly those who give us special treatment as a charity! We use free website builder software from Mobirise and free hosting services from Krystal Hosting. And some local businesses have given us materials for free, amongst them Kronospan.
Not everyone gives us lots of free stuff. But over the years we have received one-off grants to help with particular projects. Some of the earliest included Griffiths Hire Shops, Oswestry Cambrian Rotary Club and TG Group.
A slightly different source of funds is the Coop Local Community Fund. A number of our members and friends participate in this, bringing the Shed a small income - why not join them?
Krystal Hosting
We moved our web site to Krystal as they provide the security certificate (so you see the "padlock" when you visit us) for free
Aico
Aico provided a grant for materials we used to insulate the canteen shed which we hope will make it more comfortable and reduce our energy costs. What fun that was.
Veolia
Veolia's Community Fund gave us a grant for materials we used to roof over the passage between the woodwork and canteen sheds
We had to replace our original Portakabin canteen with a more secure (and watertight) unit obtained 2nd hand from Halletts of Birmingham. We were helped by grants from Oswestry Town Council, The 3 Parishes Big Local and The Co-op.
Aico and others also gave us smaller grants for various purposes.
