Our Aims

The Oswestry Mens Shed was set up to provide men with a dedicated space where they can make things, socialise, share skills or just enjoy a cup of tea.
The “Men in Sheds” movement started many years ago in Australia. A Shed is a community-based group of people who's aim is to provide a safe, friendly and healing environment as a meeting place. This brings together men who have time on their hands, who want to learn new skills, or just get together to share and form friendships, have a joke and enjoy themselves in a warm and inviting environment.
Men in Sheds aims to address social isolation and provides an opportunity for men in later life to get involved in productive activity, all whilst enjoying the benefits and banter of a social group.
Members come from a wide variety of backgrounds ranging from highly skilled joiners, wood turners and engineers to beginners; there is a role in the shed for everyone.
Basically, the shed is a place for skill-sharing and informal learning, of individual pursuits and community projects; a place of leisure where men come together to have a sense of purpose and social interaction.

We encourage members to contribute to group projects as well as individual ones following their own interests. All members regardless of their interests are considered to be contributing to the diversity within ‘The Shed’.

It is vitally important that we respect the need for health and safety and create an environment where safety of all is paramount.

All in all we feel that we have created a happy and welcoming environment where the traditional male workplace communication styles are in evidence, provided all are treated with respect.
